In honor of International Women’s Month, catch TOMA (Terrace of Modern Art) at Hawaiian Aroma Caffe inside the Waikiki Beachcomber by Outrigger hotel — a free, pop-up art show spotlighting Hawaii women (wahine in Hawaiian) artists.

For the fifth edition of TOMA — set for March 26th from 6 to 10 p.m. — TOMA Wahine Edition will pay tribute to a few of Hawaii’s best female artists in a fun, free outdoor event in a gallery hop-esque environment with ample music. True to the theme, TOMA Wahine Edition will also feature female-run food and drink booths, as well as various pop-up shops.

On-site activities will include lei-making, a hair extensions station, a pop-up Aloha Collection shop, and a bikini boutique hosted by Pohakupuna Beach Club: all of which are not to be missed! Luna Events Hawaii & Drink Gazoz, women-run establishments, will delight attendees with delicious food and drink. And to set the mood, live ‘ukulele and lounge music will be provided by prodigy powerhouse: award-winning ‘ukulele virtuoso Taimane Gardner and the beloved local fave of Tropical House and Chillwave beats, DJ Jem. If you haven’t seen Taimane strum her stuff live, this is your chance!

“Hawai‘i’s art scene contributes so much to the vibrancy of life in the islands,” Jonathan Rotmensch, Hawaiian Aroma Caffe Owner and TOMA Founder, shares. “We’re honored to provide a space to showcase and honor our wahine artists during International Women’s Month in this next installment of TOMA.”

In fact, the poolside terrace at the hotel near the Hawaiian Aroma Caffe will be completely transformed into an exhibition area — as it has before, for this much-awaited quarterly event spotlighting Hawaii artists. The open-air stage will be set for local music groups and welcome passersby to join for beverages and pupus (appetizers / snacks) by the pool area, while perusing through the various colorful works on view. The selected artists will be present for the occasion to spread the aloha spirit, as well as meet and mingle with fans, friends, and vacationers looking for a special, creative souvenir to take back home.

While the event celebrates all wahine artists from the islands, this edition of TOMA will specifically spotlight six talented, Hawaii-based female creatives:

Lauren Roth

A Kailua-based artist and designer specialized in capturing the islands’ natural beauty through colorful, whimsical designs.

Kate Wadsworth

A Kailua-based illustrator, graphic designer, and muralist who experiments with bold colors and exaggerated shapes and lines.

Kat Reeder

A Honolulu-based, Peruvian-American artist whose bold style has earned her numerous collaborations, including Vans Triple Crown of Surfing and Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film, Licorice Pizza.

Christie Chinn

A local artist who uses her creations to express her passion for surfing, travel, and design by capturing the island’s everyday beauty via signature brush work.

Summer Colmus

A Honolulu-based artist who incorporated intricate Polynesian designs into her paintings, as well as warm reds and yellows that evoke our islands’ stunning sunsets.

Baby Casagrande

A local artist influenced by fine and abstract art, as well as culture, who is also Hawaiian Aroma Caffe’s own Creative Director who enjoys creating intricate latte designs during her day job.

Furthermore, “Celebrating with a good cause” being the TOMA theme, TOMA has also partnered with WSO (Women Speaking Out) this year: a non-profit founded by former Miss Hawaii Juliet Lighter, that empowers Hawaii’s youth through education and providing them opportunities to speak out, especially against dating violence.

TOMA highlights all varieties of art, from paintings and photography to printmaking, illustrations and more. Not only does the event support a great cause, but it will also be a wonderful social occasion for locals and visitors alike; TOMA knew this in kick-starting the event at Hawaiian Aroma Caffe: They wished to provide a platform for local artists to showcase their work on a quarterly basis in an exhibition-style environment—and celebrate a good cause, of course. As the global health situation may have pushed back previously planned events, this gathering has been long awaited!

To amplify the excitement, a bonus gift will also be distributed to the first 100 people who attend the event: a branded tote bag filled with TOMA sponsor and participating artist goodies.

Art lovers, locals and visitors alike, will certainly enjoy this artist block party of sorts as an uncommon, memorable experience for any island visit. Unique works, inspired by island life and culture, will enable you to take home a piece of paradise created by a local herself.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 26th, from 6 to 10 p.m. Hope to see you there!
