When driving the roads of laid-back Molokai, keep in mind:

  • All occupants of a car must wear seat belts (regardless of age), and children weighing less than 50 pounds must be in a child safety or booster seat.
  • Right on red is legal unless otherwise marked.
  • You won’t encounter much traffic — but you may encounter a mongoose or two (small, brown, weasel-shaped animals). Keep a watchful eye; these animals tend to dash out in front of vehicles.

Average vehicle rental rates

Cars: Expect to pay about $46 for a one-day compact car rental. Five-day rentals range from $190 to $235.
