May Day by the Bay is a Community Event celebrating the Hawaiian culture through Music, Hula, Cultural demonstrations by local Practitioners, a Kauaʻi made products Craft Fair, Displays by community groups, a Silent Auction and Ono (delicious) Food. We are proud to showcase the best parts of Kauaʻi – our people, culture and beauty. By shining the spotlight on the people in our community who are “Keeping the Culture Alive” you have the opportunity to have a unique, authentic, hands-on experience you’ll always remember. Events like May Day by the Bay are what makes Kaua’i, Kaua’i and our hope is that you’ll want to attend year after year.
Come and enjoy Hawaiian music and hula performed by talented musicians and dancers that will keep you entertained all day. You’ll have the opportunity to learn and play konane – Hawaiian Checkers, make a lei, and learn more about lauhala and coconut weaving, and kapa making. Shop in the Crafter’s Tent where all of the vendors are local and their products are made on Kaua’i. Sample the food of Hawai’i, it’s a must to try sweet, delicious Kulolo and chocolate covered bananas. Support our event by bidding on an item at the Silent Auction, and see what our community groups are doing to make Kaua’i a better place and learn how you can support their efforts.
This is not a fundraiser as all monies donated and raised that day are used to perpetuate this great community event.
This is an alcohol/drug-free event is sponsored by the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority, the County of Kaua’i and The Garden Island newspaper.

10:00am – 5:00pm, gate opens at 9:30am
$5 admission fee – 5 years old & under are free
May Day by the Bay on Kauai – Location
The event is held at Wai’oli Beach Park, He’e Rd, right on the bay in Hanalei. Park at Wai’oli Town Park on Kuhio Hwy (follow the signs) and catch the shuttle bus.
