67th Cherry Blossom Festival announces 2019 Calendar of Events
The 67th Cherry Blossom Festival has released its 2019 Calendar of Events, which begins with an Opening Ceremony on Jan. 13 and culminates with Festival Ball on March 16. Many of these events are free and open to the public.

Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii, Teruya Courtyard Stage
The 67th Cherry Blossom Festival officially kicks off during the New Year’s Ohana Festival where the new Queen Contestants are revealed after a traditional Shinto blessing.
Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019
The 11 Queen Contestants will practice their public speaking skills and cultural entertainment will be provided by Hanayagi Dancing Academy. The Cherry Blossom Festival will also present awards to the three student winners of the Haiku Art Contest.

Queen Contestants will refine their public speaking skills by answering impromptu questions and Ryukyu Koten Afuso-ryu Ongaku Kenkyuu Choichi Kai USA will perform.

Golfers enjoy a fun-filled tournament with food and games along the course. The event concludes with an awards banquet where prizes will be announced. Queen package for three players including hole sponsor ($850), Princess package for three players ($650), hole sponsor ($200), and ticket package ($75) will be available for sale between Jan. 13 and Feb. 8.

Guests enjoy an evening of music and entertainment with the opportunity to meet and greet the 67th Cherry Blossom Queen Contestants. This year’s theme is “Glitter and Glam.” There will be delicious pupu, door prizes, and lucky draw contests. Pre-sale tickets will be available for $25 starting Jan. 13. $30 at the door. This is a 21-and-over only event.

Sheraton Waikiki Ballrooms
The evening begins with the Western phase. Queen Contestants deliver a prepared speech while wearing an evening gown. During the Eastern phase, Queen Contestants answer an impromptu question while wearing traditional furisode silk kimono. The evening concludes with the coronation of the 67th Cherry Blossom Festival Queen and Court. It is an unforgettable night of elegance and excitement. General seating ($110 individual, $1,100 for table of 10) will be available starting Jan. 13.
Events marked with an asterisk are free and open to the public. Ticket sales for paid events will begin on Jan. 13. Official 67th Cherry Blossom Festival commemorative T-shirts ($20) and souvenir books ($15) will also be available for purchase. More information and sales forms will be posted online.
About the Cherry Blossom Festival
The Cherry Blossom Festival holds the honor of being one of the longest, continually running ethnic festivals in the State of Hawaii. It was started in 1953 by the founding fathers of the Honolulu Japanese Junior Chamber of Commerce to celebrate Japanese culture.
