One way to gain a different perspective on Waikikiand life in generalis to sail on a catamaran. You can take a sunset jaunt, a dinner cruise or a leisurely midday sail in waters off Waikiki Beach. Aboard a catamaran, you'll see Honolulu's cityscape, the lights of Waikiki highlighting a backdrop of volcanoes, and the vast ocean all around.
The piers at Aloha Tower (at Honolulu Harbor directly across from downtown Honolulu) hosts several large dinner cruise vessels, including the world's largest Polynesian catamaran. These cruises sail just off the Waikiki shoreline, around Diamond Head point and back. In addition to dinner, expect an exciting Polynesian show that may include cruisers joining the dancers on stage to top off the evening.
Other cruise catamarans dock at Kewalo Basin (just west of Ala Moana Beach Park) and also sail out around Diamond Head. On some vessels you can swim with turtles and visit with tropical reef fish and dolphins that frequent the area.
