Master Carvers from across the Pacific come together with Hawaii's carvers to create real canoes & tikis from wood logs on Front Street in Lahaina.
Demos of old-style surfboard, drum and thatched house making are also featured with cultural arts lessons, performances & Polynesian crafts fair at public locations in Lahaina.
Over the closing weekend, watch Parade of Canoes down Front St. then head to Kamehameha Iki beach park for ancient Hawaiian ceremony & sunset launch of completed canoes, followed by island food, music and dance festival until 10pm. Check website MauiCanoeFest.com for updates.
Screen films under the stars in the stunning open-air surround of the Maui Film Festival on the grounds of the Wailea Resort. The festival has gained a reputation for its intelligent selection of films, its creative events and, most of all, its under-the-stars screenings. Movie stars mingle with visitors and locals. Parties, fancy culinary events, dancing and entertainment fill off-screen hours.

Event held at Banyan Tree Park.
10 a.m.- Annual King Kamehameha Celebration Floral Parade
Beginning at Kenui St to Kamehameha Iki Park. An awards presentation will follow.
Honoring the families of King Kamehameha the Great, this annual Floral & Pa'u equestrian parade begins at 10 am from the 900 block of Front St. to the Banyan Tree. An awards ceremony, cultural crafts fair and pa'u demonstrations are featured with Hawaiian music, hula and local food. Held at Banyan Tree Park, 9 am to 5 pm.
The Maui Marathon is a point to point course from Kahului to Kaanapali. It is recogonized as one of the most scenic marathons in North America with most of the course running within 50 feet of the Pacific Ocean.
The Maui Half Marathon is out and back from Whalers Village in Kaanapali. This flat and fast course passes through Lahaina Towne. Walkers are welcome in all events.
The Front Street Mile is Sept. 13, as is the Maui Tacos 5K with all ages welcome. Awards are given in all age groups.

The 26th annual Vans Triple Crown of Surfing features the world's best surfers against the world's biggest and best waves of Oahu's famous North Shore. These three events for men and women offer $750,000 in prize money and will crown the 2008 Association of Surfing Professionals World Champions. Wave face heights along the North Shore during the winter months range from six- to 60-feet!
