The island of Lanai is rich in ancient Hawaiian history and natural attractions.
Six miles northwest of Lanai City, on the island's western plateau, the Garden of The Gods is a brick-red, Martian landscape of rocks and giant boulders. Ka'ena Point, at the end of a four-wheel-drive road at the island's western point, is home to Lanai's largest heiau (ancient place of worship). On the island's south shore you'll find the ruins of Kaunolu Village, an ancient Hawaiian fishing village, and on a hillside overlooking the Palawai Basin you can visit a fragile field of ancient rock drawings called the Luahiwa petroglyphs.
