Pu'u o Mahuka Heiau State Monument
The largest heiau (sacred Hawaiian place of worship) in the state, this 5.7 acre-site is reputed to be the sacrifice site of Capt. George Vancouver's watering party in 1873. It features a low-walled court platform-type temple with two adjoining smaller independent structures. Overlooking Waimea Bay, it's a good place for a picnic or watching the sunset. Open daily from 7 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.
