Lihue
As Kauai county seat and home to the island’s main airport, Lihue also serves as the commercial center of “The Garden Isle.” Nawiliwili Bay, the island’s major seaport, is convenient to Lihue. Lihue is located in the ancient district of Puna. With the emergence of the sugar industry in the 1800s, a large sugar mill was constructed and plantation homes such as Kilohana were erected. Today, former plantation lands are part of many outdoor recreational activities.
