"Hawaiian Obsession"

Ever wish you could just sit in the picturesque little cafe on your favorite island and talk/gossip with all of your favorite friends. Well this is the next best thing, the only thing we don't have here is the view.

"Hawaiian Obsession"

Postby leeduf on Wed Mar 07, 2007 3:17 pm

I just realised today how obsessed I am in Hawaii and it's culture and lifestyle. My dvd collection is full of episodes of Hawaii 5-0.I watch old re-runs of Magnum PI,Saved by the Bell Hawaiian style( I don't like to admit too loudly to that seeing as I'm 50!!!)etc. etc.!!! I even have a little shrine to the Islands(which i pray to EVERY day!!!)This is really SAD, as I work in a Dental Surgery. My co-workers think I am a little strange.(i think they are just jealous and secretly wish they were there too!!!!)All my passwords for computer etc. are hawaiian related! My BIGGEST passion(and secret, apart from family) I wear Muu-Muu's around the house..............!!!!!!!!! Oh i think i need a LIFE(or at least ANOTHER holiday to Hawaii.....SOON)befor i go crazy!!!!!!!! :smiley74

I've been Hawaii obsessed since I saw the movie Hawaii on beta-max...lol and I was just around 6 or 7 then.

Then I went in 2005 and been forever changed. I live, eat, drink, breathe and sleep Hawaii. Every time I look at the clock it will remind me of Hawaii (808) Weird how I glance at it at THAT particular time :D

Anyway, we all love the Aloha spirit and its very contagious! I love it!!!

Oh, God, Ana! You were only 6 or 7? I feel so old!!!

My first time to Hawai'i was in 1972. That was when I went to live on Midway Island for 2 1/2 years. I couldn't get the islands out of my soul. Since 1980, I've been to the islands at least once a year. This year, I'm actually going to miss going because I decided to go back to school and make a major career change. Just knowing I'm going to have to miss going is killing me!

Because of that, I've redecorated my whole house in Hawai'ian style, complete with palm trees and plumeria. Now I'm starting to change over my lanai and my deck. I have a girlfriend here who is Hawai'ian. She and her family are really being wonderful and helping me bring some of the island to San Diego.

You guys are causing me to tear-up. I suspected there were others like me ,but on the other hand thought I was the only one. My husband just smiles and gives me my aloha time. I know about the tattoo thing, dolphins in tribal waves on my lower back , the "Bill Hamilton logo" between my shoulder blades and my next will be a surfing TIKI ( as soon as I get the $ together). Obsessed ....yes,o.k. with it....absolutely! From my TIKI lounge to my surfboards on our livingroom walls,I am a happy Hawaiian camper...Surfkat :smiley57

Take it from Granny here, you never get over Hawai'i. I wear mu'umu'us whenever I can; I never wear shoes anymore...only flip-flops; I have my Hawaiian music on all the time; the house is Hawaiian style; doing the deck and lanai now; I use Hawaiian fragranced soaps and body splashes and shampoos; when I meditate, it's done with Hawaiian sounds and fragrances all around me. I figure anybody who doesn't like Hawai'i or who refuses to go to Hawai'i or who doesn't want to go to Hawai'i sometime has to be weird! :smiley114

My office is full of turtle stuff, from antique lighters to erasers. My truck has honu stickers on the window and Squirt from Nemo sitting on the dash and turtle air freshners hanging as decorations. In my jewelery box is more honu stuff than anything else, but my most fav piece is a puka shell necklace with a hono in the middle decorated with swarofski (sp?) crystals. And the logo of our business? A TURTLE!

My eldest is also obsessed with Hawaii (wonder where go got that from? )

I'm curious, what exactly do you guys find makes you so obsessed with the place? I'm not saying you shouldn't be :D just wondering if there's some particular aspect of it or something.

You ever get moments where you wonder why you're doing it and feel silly?

'm not alone...................I have NEVER felt silly. When you holiday in Hawaii you tend to have such a relaxing and exciting holiday that the feelings stay with you and any TRIGGER(e.g smells ,sounds ,photos) just set those old feelings off again. :smiley55

Leeduf thanks for the additional webcams,I'll be heading there next! As far as "what makes an obsession" not sure. Maybe we're all misplaced old Hawaiian souls, trying to get back where we belong. My first time in Hawai'i was at 6 weeks old, but my mom said that I started crying when we lifted off from Honolulu and didn't stop for hours. Hawai'i has been in my heart all of my remembered life. Maybe I need to do a past-life regression  Surfkat :smiley57

My Hawaii obsession is due mainly to homesickness...

As some of you know, I was born and raised in Hawaii. To be honest, I never knew how much I missed Hawaii until I moved away...haven't lived in Hawaii since 1984. Since I've been so homesick I started a Hawaii-related business (handmade soaps) and use them as well. I visit Hawaii every year and bring back photos so that I can share with other Hawaii lovers on my Hawaii-eCards.com site. And my home is decorated with items from Hawaii....from the hawaiian quilts on my bed, hawaiian quilted pillows on the sofas, koa picture frames, monkey pod serving bowls/dishes etc...and lets not forget about all the ono kau kau! And yes, I wear hawaiian print shirts and polos especially when golfing!

When we moved into our new home, I vowed to decorate it with a bit of Hawaiiana...here's a couple of photos of my fave room in the house...my diningroom. We bought the place in June 2006 and did a complete overhaul...re-painted and took all the carpeting out and put down hardwood floors throughout our entire home. Here's the before and after shots...

We don't have a back deck area yet, but I'm already visualizing one that would remind me of Hawaii...

I would love to see others' photos as well so please share!

We are redecorating our livingroom right now,our walls are light sage, Hawai'ian print drapes and wer'e putting in bamboo hardwoods right now. Part of the wall decor., my gorgeous prized " Bill Hamilton" longboard , hanging horizontally over my sofa. We do have a year-round tiki lounge in our screen-porch area, and Tikis stratigically placed throughout the yard and around the pool area. I love to turn on my music and float, watching the palms blow in the breeze,it's easy to feel like I'm there. Then the kids come home.... and I snap back to reality that I'm in Florida. Surfkat

been obsessed for 15 years now never felt silly listening to music wearing aloha wear, having my apt decorated with hawaii memoribilia etc..... there is a root there that brings you to pure relaxation to understand what the culture and beauty holds how it is different and apart from what we normally observe. it is in me deep many friends dont understand but as they slowly visit they become equally obsessed. as my brother who hates to fly but does to go to hawaii.

When I was 19 - it was the first time I went to Hawaii - and fell in love with Hawaii.

When friends or co-workers are planning a trip to Hawaii they call me - and say "Why don't you just move there?"

For our Engagement Party - we had a Hawaiian style luau.

For our wedding in Florida - planned a beach wedding - but that didn't work out - for the cocktail hour - all that was played was Hawaiian music. And for our first dance we danced to Na Leo " For the Rest of My Life".

And of course where did we go in Nov on our honeymoon?

Can you guess????

Aloha,
Judy
