I wanted to do something very special for my wife to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary. I am a typical guy not usually very romantic but thought I needed to express to my wife how much I love her and to assure her of my lifetime commitment to her. So I planned a surprise to renew our wedding vows in Hawaii on her favorite island of Maui.

I contacted the "Maria Lanakila" Catholic church in Lahina and explained to the pastor what I wanted to do and they graciously helped me plan the ceremony. I had new rings made and inscribed with the date of the ceremony as well as a brief message which said " love you always" and the date. I also had two wedding leis sent to the church.

My wife thought we were just going to a Sunday morning church service and when we were going in we were both given the leis, I told my wife its tradition to welcome new comers, she accepted my story! When the main part of the mass was coming to an end the priest saying mass called out our names and asked us to come forward, my wife was very startled and didn't want to go, but I kept pulling her out of her seat and said please come he is calling us!

Finally I convinced her to come with me, she still didn't know why. Once we were at the alter the priest announced that we were renewing our vows of 30 years, my wife then began to cry and I also got a little choked up as well. This was like a fairy tale day the beautiful Hawaiian church, the choir in sarongs singing Hawaiian songs, it was so perfect. We will be married for 45 years on Sept. 02, 2012 and would love to renew our vows once more in that beautiful white old church once more. But since we are now retired and on SSI our funds our limited but we can still hope it will happen.
