Shopping & sightseeing tolleys are a fun alternative

One of Honolulu's little-known treasures is its small fleet of open-air trolleys, used almost exclusively by visitors to shop and sightsee. Pamphlets with route and schedule information are available in nearly all Waikiki hotels and at sidewalk news racks. A brief run-down:

Hilo Hattie Trolley
Hilo Hattie, the Hawaii retailer that sells everything from aloha wear to chocolate-covered macadamia nuts, offers a free trolley ride from several Waikiki locations to its superstore on Nimitz Highway. The trolley stops at Ala Moana Shopping Center and Aloha Tower Marketplace as well — ideal if you're in the mood to shop, shop, shop. Runs daily every 20 minutes between the hours of 8:20 a.m. and 4:50 p.m. Call (808) 535-6500 for more information.

Waikiki Trolley
This trolley's three lines are designed with the visitor in mind: From 8:55 a.m. to 9:40 p.m. daily you have a choice of the Honolulu City Line (red), Ala Moana Shopping Shuttle Line (pink), and the Ocean Coast Line (blue). Waikele Trolley
This trolley has one of the longest routes, transporting shopping enthusiasts 20 miles west of Waikiki to one of the island's shopping Meccas: the Waikele Premium Outlets and Waikele Value Center. Choose between two morning pickup times at almost every Waikiki hotel, and three return times in the afternoon and evening.
