King Kamehameha I Statue

On June 11 each year (King Kamehameha I Day, a state holiday — reportedly Kamehameha's birthday), dozens of leis are draped around the neck and outstretched arms of this bronze likeness of the man who united the Hawaiian Islands under one rule, circa 1810. Kamehameha was considered the greatest warrior of his time (see also story on the Pali Lookout for more information). The statue is located in front of Ali'iolani Hale (the State Judiciary Building) at the corner of King and Mililani streets in downtown Honolulu.
