Zipline Mountain Adventure

Ziplining, a treetop thrill ride that calls for shrieking from beginning to end, is gaining popularity on Maui. Kapalua Resort has just opened a new adventure park that uses an eight-line system to soar over nearly two miles of scenic terrain, one of the longest systems in the country. Harnessed to a zipline cable, zippers can sail through the treetops, dip into valleys and generally do their best imitation of Tarzan.

Kapalua Adventures Mountain Outpost is located near Kapalua Resort on Maui's west side. The adventure park offers a full range of outdoor activities, including eight dual-track ziplines, two suspension bridges, a comprehensive high-ropes challenge course and a four-station climbing tower.

The Mountain Outpost features knowledgeable guides trained in Hawaiian history and the culture, flora and fauna of the area. The park is designed to minimize impact to the natural environment. Guests are transported to the Mountain Outpost from the Kapalua Adventure Center in biodiesel-fueled Mercedez-Benz Unimogs via existing pineapple field access roads. A "zipper lifter" is used to transport guests from the main viewing platform up the mountainside to access the zipline systems.

Kapalua Resort has pledged 10 percent of the profits generated by the Adventure Center to the Pu'u Kukui Watershed Preserve, which is home to home to several of the world's rarest plants and insects as well as a pristine tropical bog and delicate ecosystems.
