Venture into Hidden Sea Caves

Centuries ago, fiery eruptions poured molten lava into the sea, forming enchanting arches, grottos and sea caves on a coast once home to ancient Hawaiian settlers. Fortified by the towering slopes of Mt. Haleakala and inaccessible by car, the Kanaio Coast remained virtually unknown to visitors for years. Several rafting companies conduct rafting tours of this area in high-speed, twin-powered rafts.

Hanging tight to the raft, you'll hug the contours of the lava flow so closely you can feel the mist from a blowhole. Each turn reveals more caves, arches and intriguing formations. Snorkeling options include remote coves and bays, havens for a vast variety of aquatic creatures.
