There was a time when most Na Pali Coast boat cruises launched from Hanalei. Rafting tours, in fact, originated and proliferated in this North Shore community only a hop and a skip away from the fabled coast. Eventually, in response to environmental and community concerns, most boat companies relocated to west side harbors. But it's still possible to book a cruise that departs from Hanalei. Several companies hold permits to launch from North Shore locations.
These small, eco-friendly, "wet and wild adventure" tours launch from Weke Ramp on the Hanalei River, about 15 minutes from the Na Pali Coast where the world is transformed to an animated seascape, brushed with emerald green cliffs, dripping with waterfalls and rising out of white sand beaches.
The scenic tour, which includes snorkeling, has attracted its share of celebrities including Madonna, Jane Fonda and Sean Penn. Along the way, you'll visit sea caves carved by the winds of time and see remnants of the early Hawaiian culture that once thrived along the coast.
